What is an order-picking forklift truck?
An order-picking forklift truck (also known as a stock picker or order picker) means a powered industrial truck with a mast and elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other load holding attachment and where the operator’s controls are incorporated with the load carriage or lifting media and elevate with it. These machines are commonly used in warehouses, retail distribution centres, and logistics operations.
What does the LO licence cover?
The scope of work for the LO licence covers the operation of order-picking forklift trucks with fork arms or other load holding attachments that can be raised 900mm or more above the ground. This licence is separate from the LF licence. The scope of work for this licence does not include the operation of a forklift truck.
Can I operate a standard forklift with this licence?
No. The LO licence only covers order-picking forklifts where the operator is raised with the load. If you also want to operate a standard forklift truck, you will need to complete the LF forklift licence course. Many operators choose to hold both licences to increase their employment opportunities
Can I do this course without prior experience?
Yes. No prior order picker or warehouse experience is required. The course is designed for new learners as well as those with some industry experience. You will need to meet the entry requirements for language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
Do I get my licence straight after the course?
Not straight away. After completing the training and passing the WorkSafe licence assessment, you’ll receive a Notice of Assessment (NOA) by email. You must submit this through the MyWorkSafe portal or at an Australia Post outlet within 60 days, along with the licence fee. WorkSafe will then issue and post your official LO licence card.
Can I do the course on weekends or part-time?
We may offer weekend or customised delivery options depending on availability and demand. If the standard 2-day or 3-day options do not suit you, talk to us — we’re happy to explore alternatives with you.
