What does this TV licence cover?

The scope of a TV high risk work licence includes operating a non-slewing telehandler, with a Rated Capacity (RC) greater than three tonnes, safely and in accordance with relevant legislative responsibilities.

Does this licence cover forklifts or other plant?

No. The TV licence only covers non-slewing telehandlers with a capacity over 3 tonnes. To operate other high-risk equipment such as forklifts, cranes or order pickers, you must hold the correct licence for that plant type.

Do I need this licence for telehandlers under 3 tonnes?

No. To operate telehandler up to 3 tonnes, a TV licence is not required, but you must still receive training and instruction to operate them safely.

The TSHA Gold Card Training Program is for people who need the skills and knowledge to safely operate Telescopic Material Handlers (telehandlers). This course provides training in the safe use of different telehandler and attachment combinations that do not require a high-risk work licence. You can complete one or more modules, depending on the telehandler and attachments you will be using:

  • Forks (F)
  • Crane Jib (J)
  • Earthmoving Bucket (B)
  • Other (O): covers other attachment types such as bale grabs, work platforms, sweepers, etc.

We offer the Gold Card course. Contact us for more details.

Can I do this course without prior telehandler or other plant experience?

Yes. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. However, you will need to meet the course selection criteria, including language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.

Do I get my licence immediately after the course?

Not immediately. After you successfully complete both the unit of competency and the WorkSafe licence assessment, you will receive a Notice of Assessment (NOA) by email. You must then lodge your NOA through the MyWorkSafe portal or at Australia Post within 60 days and pay the required licence fee. WorkSafe will issue the physical licence card after that process.

Can I do the course on weekends or part-time?

We may offer weekend or customised delivery options depending on availability and demand. If the standard 3-day options do not suit you, talk to us — we’re happy to explore alternatives with you.
