To enrol, you must:

• • Be 18 years or older

• • Basic verbal and written English communication skills sufficient to read material and understand instruction [students will undertake a pre work assessment (PWA) on the workshop day under supervision before participating in the Gold Card course]

• • Be in good health and fitness.

Course topics include:

• • Plan and prepare for telescopic handler operations

• • Carry out site inspections and perform risk assessments

• • Complete pre-operational checks on the telescopic handler

• • Select, remove and fit attachments correctly

• • Operate the telescopic handler safely and efficiently

• • Use telescopic handlers equipped with stabilisers

• • Drive the telescopic handler on public roads in accordance with requirements

• • Understand the stability triangle and interpret load charts

• • Shut down and secure the telescopic handler after use

Course fees are listed on the current fee schedule. For an extra fee (subject to change), students may apply for RPL to obtain the nationally recognised unit RIIHAN309F Conduct telescopic materials handler operations.  In this circumstance, the RTO responsible for assessing the unit of competency is Industry Compliant Training (RTO Registration Code 40825).  If you would like to apply for a Statement of Attainment, please talk to your trainer on the day, who will assist you with your application.

What does this Gold Card Course cover? The TSHA Gold Card Training Program is for people who need the skills and knowledge to safely operate Telescopic Material Handlers (telehandlers). This course provides training in the safe use of different telehandler and attachment combinations that do not require a high-risk work licence. You can complete one or more modules, depending on the telehandler and attachments you will be using:

• • Forks (F)

• • Crane Jib (J)

• • Earthmoving Bucket (B)

• • Other (O): covers other attachment types such as bale grabs, work platforms, sweepers, etc.

This course includes classroom theory, practical demonstration, physical operation and assessment. Will I receive an operator card of some kind or a certificate once I complete the course with you? Successful participants are issued with a digital TSHA – TSH Trained Operator Gold Card. This digital card will be available through your EWPA/TSHA Learner Portal once your assessor has recorded your assessment outcome. The TSHA now issues Digital Gold Cards that can be saved to your smartphone wallet. If you require a physical replacement card, you can order one directly from TSHA via the link on their website. A fee of $35.00 is payable online by credit card. EWPA & TSHA uses Industry Compliant Training (ICT) RTO: 40825 to conduct assessment only Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) against successful completion of the Gold Card assessment. A Statement of Attainment (SoA) will be issued upon payment of an administration fee to Industry Compliant Training. Industry Compliant Training would be responsible for issuing the Statement of Attainment to students who successfully complete the course. Does this Gold Card allow me to operate all telehandlers? No. With the TSHA Gold Card, you can operate a non-slewing telehandler with a rated capacity of three tonnes or less. No specific high risk work licence is required to operate a non-slewing telehandler with a rated capacity of three tonnes or less. However, the employer must ensure employees receive appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision so they can operate the telehandler safely and competently without a licence. Under Occupational Health and Safety laws in every Australian state, both employers and employees have a legal duty of care to ensure a safe working environment. People who want to operate a non-slewing telehandler with a rated capacity of more than 3 tonnes will need the TV licence, unless they have a current mobile crane high risk work licence. What is involved in the pre work assessment (PWA) on the day of the course? On the day of training, you will be required to undertake a pre work assessment (PWA) before participating in your Yellow/ Gold Card course. Each participant is required to successfully complete both parts (100% correct with 2 attempts) in the required timeframe (15 mins) before training can be attempted. The PWA is made up of 2 questions relating to your reading ability and 3 relating to your numerical ability. Calculators may be used. This is a minimum legal job safety requirement to operate a EWP or a Telescopic Handler. Participants who need additional help after completing this PWA will not be allowed to attend training and will be offered alternative free help if required and may complete training at a later date. Future attempts at completing a YC or GC must be accompanied with evidence of literacy and numeracy training by an approved provider before a second application can be approved. Can I do the course on weekends? We may offer weekend or customised delivery options depending on availability and demand.
