All good – please reach out to us and talk about any specific learning needs, limitations, support requirements, wellness concerns or disabilities. We may be able to assist you or guide you in the right direction.

Course fees are listed on the current fee schedule.
For an extra fee, students may apply for RPL to obtain the nationally recognised unit RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform.  In this circumstance, the RTO responsible for assessing the unit of competency is Industry Compliant Training (RTO Registration Code 40825).  If you would like to apply for a Statement of Attainment, please talk to your trainer on the day, who will assist you with the required information.

  • Current photo ID – You must have a government issued photo identification to satisfy age and identity. Your ID must be CURRENT and show full name, photograph, date of birth, signature and current address (not required for passport). What does this Yellow Card Course cover?

The EWPA Yellow Card Training Program has been designed for people needing to develop the skills and knowledge required to operate Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs or commonly known as EWPs). The course will provide training in the safe use of various types of elevating work platforms including boom type EWPs with boom length under 11 metres. Participants may complete single or multiple modules, depending on the type of EWP they will be operating:

  • Vertical Lift (VL)
  • Scissor Lift (SL)
  • Self-Propelled Boom Lift (BL)
  • Trailer Lift (TL)
  • Truck Mounted Lift (TM)
  • Advanced Boom (AB)

This course includes classroom theory, practical demonstration, physical operation and assessment. The written and practical assessment must be completed within 14 days of the commencement of training. Additional EWP types may be added to an existing YC within eight (8) weeks of the date of the completion of the initial YC EWP types & GC attachments. As it is within eight (8) weeks only the practical assessment for the additional EWP types needs to be undertaken but additional training will need to be provided by the Accredited Trainer on the additional EWP types being assessed.

Will I receive an operator card of some kind or a certificate once I complete the course with you?

Successful participants are issued with digital EWPA – EWP Operator Licence Yellow Card. This digital card will be available through your EWPA/TSHA Learner Portal once your assessor has recorded your assessment outcome.

The EWPA now issues Digital Gold Cards that can be saved to your smartphone wallet.

If you require a physical replacement card, you can order one directly from EWPA via the link on their website. An additional fee is payable online by credit card.

EWPA uses Industry Compliant Training (ICT) RTO: 40825 to conduct assessment only Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) against successful completion of the Yellow Card assessment. A Statement of Attainment (SoA) will be issued upon payment of an administration fee to Industry Compliant Training. Industry Compliant Training would be responsible for issuing the Statement of Attainment to students who successfully complete the course.

Does this Yellow Card allow me to operate all EWPs?

No. With the EWPA Gold Card, you can operate various types of EWPs including boom type EWPs with boom length under 11 metres.

No specific high risk work licence is required to operate EWPs including boom type EWPs with boom length under 11 metres. However, the employer must ensure employees receive appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision so they can operate the EWP safely and competently without a licence. Under Occupational Health and Safety laws in every Australian state, both employers and employees have a legal duty of care to ensure a safe working environment.

People who want to operate a boom-type elevating work platform will need the WP licence (high risk work licence for boom-type elevating work platform operation).

What is involved in the pre work assessment (PWA) on the day of the course?

On the day of training, you will be required to undertake a pre work assessment (PWA) before participating in your Yellow/ Gold Card course.

Each participant is required to successfully complete both parts (100% correct with 2 attempts) in the required timeframe (15 mins) before training can be attempted. The PWA is made up of questions relating to your reading and numerical abilities. Calculators may be used. This is a minimum legal job safety requirement to operate an EWP or a Telescopic Handler.

Participants who need additional help after completing this PWA will not be allowed to attend training and will be offered alternative free help if required and may complete training at a later date. Future attempts at completing a YC or GC must be accompanied with evidence of literacy and numeracy training by an approved provider before a second application can be approved.

Can I do the course on weekends?

We may offer weekend or customised delivery options depending on availability and demand. If the standard one-day option does not suit you, talk to us — we’re happy to explore alternatives with you.

Re-assessment

If the participant did not pass on the first two (2) attempts, additional attendance at more training and/or coaching or studying will occur (at an additional cost). The Trainer can arrange for a participant, who has been deemed Not Yet Competent (NYC) in one or more parts of the assessment, to undertake a re-assessment at a date agreed to by the Trainer and the participant. The agreed date must be more than 24 hours from the time of the previous attempt and no later than 14 days from the day the training was delivered.
