To enrol, you must:

• Be 15 years or older
• Able use English and maths for safety, training, and assessment – reading, writing, communicating. Complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and digital (LLND) skills assessment (or discuss your LLND capability with us so we can review it to ensure you are enrolling in a suitable course)
• Be in good health and fitness
• The harnesses used in this course are of a standard size. If a participant may need a smaller or larger sized harness, please discuss this with Go Workplace Training at the time of booking.
• Hold a valid visa to study with us (if not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident)

Course topics include:

• Check all safety equipment
• Plan their work
• Use the safety equipment, and move safely at heights
• Pack up equipment at end of shift
• Apply a working knowledge of the OH&S and regulatory requirements.

• Wear: appropriate work attire (work pants and work shirts) and steel cap safety shoes
• PPE provided: high-vis clothing and hard hat (or bring your own if preferred) and fall protection equipment – harness, lanyard, etc.)

1. What is working at heights?

Working at heights involves performing tasks where a person could fall and injure themselves. This includes any situation where a worker could be above ground or floor level, near an edge, or in an elevated position.

Examples include:

• • Working on ladders, roofs, or elevated platforms
  • Maintenance or inspection tasks at height
  • Using fall arrest systems or safety harnesses

2. What does this course allow me to do?

Completing RIIWHS204E – Work safely at heights equips you to:

• • Identify and assess height-related hazards
  • Select and use appropriate fall prevention and protection equipment
  • Plan and implement safe work procedures at heights
  • Use ladders, scaffolds, and elevated platforms safely
  • Apply basic rescue procedures for fall incidents

Important: This course alone does not authorise you to operate plant such as elevating work platforms (EWPs) or perform jobs such as scaffolding, rigging, or other high-risk work at heights. Those tasks require additional certifications and high-risk work licences.

3. Is this a licence?

No. Working at heights training is not a high-risk work licence. It is a nationally recognised unit of competency required by many workplaces to ensure employees perform height-related tasks safely and legally.

4. Can I do this course without prior work experience?

Yes. The course is suitable for beginners as well as experienced workers. Participants must meet the course entry requirements, including basic language, literacy, numeracy, and physical fitness for height-related tasks.

5. How long is the certification valid?

While the unit itself does not formally “expire,” many employers require refresher training every 2–3 years, particularly for roles that involve regular work at heights.

6. Can I do the course on weekends?

We may offer weekend or customised delivery options depending on availability and demand. If the standard 1-day course option do not suit you, talk to us — we’re happy to explore alternatives with you.
