Update: Forklift Safety - Why is it so important?
Recently we posted an article ‘forklift Safety – Why is it so important’ under category ‘forklifts’ in FAQ section of our website. The article focused on discussion about the safe operation of forklifts and also other workplace equipment classified as ‘high risk’. This article is an update on further information relating to the forklift safety article.
Unfortunately, many accidents have been reported in recent weeks. Among those, some have been proven to be fatal. A New Zealand workplace had a telehandler fitted with work platform overturn and in Victoria there was an electric fire that involved a EWP basket. Both of these accidents resulted in fatalities.
NSW Workcover has published an alert in relation to an overturned boom-type elevating work platform.
Most of the above accidents that resulted in fatality are associated with overturning of a ‘high risk’ equipment. As you may know our previous article ‘forklift safety - why is it so important’ writes specifically about the equipment overturning. It will take a good amount of time before we have the actual cause of these accidents are publicly released; however, it is certainly a time to remind your teams about the importance of operator training.
We have frequently mentioned and would like to remind again that it is best you get your training under a Registered forklift training organisation that just does not help you get your forklift licence but also focuses on importance and increases awareness about hazards of uneven, soft ground, power lines and more.
