Businesses are looking to recession proof their operations and it is all about reducing costs and/or increasing efficiency of existing operations. With this, equipment rental and purchases are probably the first things to be removed from the shopping list. How do we increase efficiency and reduce costs at the same time? This becomes two edged sward, for example, loaders can become heavy expense to small construction companies but not having them drastically reduces the effectiveness of your workforce. It is probably time to think about investing in forklift attachments and employing the rule of ‘swapping’ rather then ‘stopping’. By swapping loader hire or purchase with forklift buckets can prove to be a cost effective and versatile option. This way, a little investment in forklift attachments can eliminate the need of other equipment hire and purchases.

Is there no equipment that can be replaced with forklift attachments? You can still benefit by increased efficiency that a forklift attachments can offer. Forklift attachments enable your traditional forklift to become a more productive material handling device. If your forklift operator can complete your two day tasks in a day, there is your answer to achieving the increased efficiency.

However, remember that all forklift attachments you use need to comply with OH & S requirements. So forklift jibs, spreader beams, forklift cages and everything else that attaches to a forklift need to comply with the OH & S requirement and Australian standards.

Also, make sure your forklift operator is trained by a registered RTO to use the attachments you require. It can be risky to operate some attachments without proper training.
